Hi, I’m Yamiko

I’m an organisational coach (in training), working toward accreditation with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I bring 15 years of experience working across the mental health and community services sector.

With 7 years experience specialising in supporting mental health staff, teams and organisations across Australia, I’ve developed a passion for creating opportunities for people and teams to use their experience and wisdom to take purposeful and values-driven steps forward, even when faced with complex workplace dilemmas.

I bring a foundation of experience in facilitating training, workshops, providing quality improvement and implementation support, facilitating individual and group supervision, supporting research activities, and providing leadership development support to mental health staff and teams. I’ve witnessed first-hand the impact that coaching has had on others, as well as having personally benefited from it myself.

Prior to this, I worked as an Occupational Therapist in youth mental health, supporting young people and their families within public healthcare and non-profit services. I understand the real-world pressures faced by staff working in the caring professions, and am keen to build communities that support the work to remain sustainable. I love to witness the passion, thoughtfulness and integrity that so many staff bring to their work.

When I’m not coaching I am most happiest spending time with my rainbow family, relaxing at the beach, listening to a good investigative podcast, and being a food/coffee snob.

Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Organisational Coaching with Swinburne University (ICF Accredited Coach Training Program ATCP) - in progress, working towards ACC accreditation

  • Member, International Coaching Federation (ICF)

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with La Trobe University

  • Member, Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA)

  • Mental Health Endorsement (OTA)

  • Registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

I like to take an evidence-informed approach. I blend a range of coaching approaches, to include Behavioural Coaching, Solution-Focused Coaching, Appreciative Enquiry, Immunity of Change, Acceptance and Commitment Based Coaching, and Narrative Coaching.

I believe the power of the coaching lies in the relationship we build together. As such I work closely with people to understand who they are and their context. This supports the aim of finding a balance in coaching between feeling safe and being challenged, which drives results.

I’m also committed to working towards creating environments that are culturally safe, LGBTIQ+ friendly, neuro-affirming and inclusive, as I understand first-hand the impact that these environments can have in promoting safety, learning, and genuine self-reflection.

In my experience, coaching supports you to have the conversation you need to have with yourself, in a guided and thoughtful way. My role is not to offer solutions, but rather ask powerful questions that helps you gain greater clarity, direction or momentum.

I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about what coaching is and isn’t, so I am very happy to walk you through understanding what coaching can do for you.

My approach:

My Values:

I believe that coaching has the capacity to offer a unique experience for caring professional staff. It isn’t about setting unrealistic expectations, but rather recognising that a little extra support can go a long way.

In every coaching conversation I try to bring the values that matter most to me, in particular creating…

An affirming experience

Where your strengths, knowledge, identity and wisdom are respected

a partnership that matters

Recognising that the power of coaching lies in the relationship we develop together

results beyond the conversation

Using systems thinking, where any insights or learnings from coaching extends into the real world
